Creating a Crisis Communication Plan that Actually Works with Natalie Godwin, APR of Unum
We are excited to have Natalie Goodwin, APR join us in April to talk about Crisis Communication. She will share examples of crises she has dealt with and how to create a communication plan that fits the ever changing environment.
Natalie recently helped Unum recreate their communication crisis plan. During our April program, she intends to share how a plan like the one she will present can be altered to fit any crises, including responding to situations like COVID-19.

About Natalie Godwin, APR
Unum Head of External Communications, Natalie Godwin, APR, is currently working in public relations, but has spent much of her time in front of the camera and producing television news. She started her career in Greenville, North Carolina as a television reporter and has worked at stations in Los Angeles, Tampa and Washington, DC.
Natalie started her public relations career at NASA. Robots exploring the Red Planet isn’t new. She implemented strategic communications plans for Mars missions and space shuttle launches.
After NASA, she headed to General Motors to make the cars the stars. Natalie managed media relations including auto shows, new product launches and community events. She was a member of the crisis team during GM’s historic automotive bailout and bankruptcy.
Natalie spent several years tracking the latest e-commerce trends for global logistics leader, UPS. She earned numerous awards managing media relations during the busy holiday shipping season. She moved into hospitality to launch Hilton’s corporate social responsibility strategy: Travel with Purpose. She directed the global integrated communications campaign sharing the company’s vision to reduce its environmental footprint in half to help protect the planet, and double its social impact to drive positive change in communities by 2030.
She is currently a board member for the PRSA Foundation and The Skills Center.
Natalie has a master’s degree from the Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism at the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
