“Should You Be Using AI Tools & How”

Led by Nate Johnson and Chris Johnston, L2D is a creative design, development, and strategy firm based in Chattanooga, TN, that specializes in complex web-based applications and AR, VR, XR, and 3D/motion interactive experiences.

In this forward thinking and engaging presentation, Nate and Eliott will provide real-world uses for generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and others. The session will also explore topics such as concerns around AI tools and ethical considerations.

L2D has worked on AR/VR and metaverse related projects for a range of clients such as The Atlantic, Northface, Meta/Facebook, Microsoft and more. The discussion will also include a robust Q&A.

About Nate Johnson: Nate earned a bachelor’s degree in art with a concentration in design from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He began his career as a designer at the Retail Merchandise Group and then at Wanisoft Corp, gaining design and development experience.

In 2007, Johnson co-founded L2D, an interactive design company that has made a tremendous impact globally. With a strong background in design, development, and team leadership, Johnson has worked for over 17 years on a variety of projects and campaigns for an array of clients.

His diverse portfolio covers multiple platforms and tech stacks in app development and website design, management and maintenance. Some of his notable clients include The North Face, Universal Lighting (a division of Panasonic), Lee University and The Atlantic.

Johnson’s interests are centered around leveraging technology to foster meaningful and healthy connections among people, as well as encouraging engagement with nature. His passion for enhancing human interaction is complemented by his curiosity about the implications of AI on humanity, an area that has increasingly captured his attention.

About Chris Johnston: Chris Johnston is a Chattanooga, TN-based “shade tree” cultural theorist with opinions about the interplay between post/metamodern culture and aesthetics, theology, sociology, technology and economics.

He has worked in strategic, management, or production capacities in the interactive design field since the late ‘90s and is currently the director of strategy at L2D and a visiting adjunct professor for Interactive Design at Covenant College.

Once described as “The World’s Smartest Busboy” by restaurateur/philosopher, Dino Thompson, much of Johnston’s graduate research work has focused on subjects related to field dependence—independence, cognition and human-computer interaction (HCI).

Some of his past clients include Google Jigsaw, Microsoft, The Atlantic, Duke University, GlaxoSmithKline, Whole Foods, Seiko, Pepboys, First Things, Blue Cross Blue Shield and the Federal Aviation Administration.

This in-person event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3, at the Mountain City Club from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
