“Looking Back at the Disasters in Hamilton County – Preparing for the Future”
Amy Maxwell is currently the Public Relations Manager for Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management/Homeland Security (HCOEM) in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Since becoming the Public Information Officer in 1999, Maxwell serves as the media liaison for Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management/Homeland Security, Field Services and EMS. She manages the archiving, tracking and monitoring news coverage for Hamilton County. Maxwell has 24 years of experience in crisis communications. She plans, coordinates and directs a broad comprehensive public relations and communications program for HCOEM. She is responsible for developing a positive relationship with the media, writing and distributing news releases and public service announcements, generating feature ideas and coordinating photo requests, among other public relations related endeavors.
She has assisted as the main media liaison in several large relief efforts, such as, Hurricane Katrina & Gustav, several tornadoes that have struck the Hamilton County/Chattanooga area and the Chattanooga Shootings in July 2015. Mrs. Maxwell is also a photographer and videographer. She has been a national photo winner five times in the Nationwide IFSTA/Fire Protection Publication. She is a webmaster and social media coordinator for several agencies. Part-time, Maxwell is the Communications Director for the Tennessee Fire Chief’s Association.
Amy received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1993 in Communications, Public Relations and Marketing. In March of 2000, she received her AEMT certification from Chattanooga State Technical Community College. Maxwell is a Certified Emergency Manager and a member of the Public Relations Society of America, Southeastern EMS Directors Association and Emergency Management Association of Tennessee.
